Welsh Bara Brith in@OfficialThermomix #welshrecipes #welshfood #britishfood #thermomixrecipes

One of Wales’ best-loved traditional bakes 🇬🇧🍞

If you’ve never tried bara brith before, think of it as somewhere between a fruit loaf, tea bread and lightly spiced cake – rich, comforting and packed with flavour. The name literally translates as “speckled bread” in Welsh, thanks to the dried fruit dotted throughout the loaf.

Traditionally, the mixed dried fruit is soaked overnight in strong tea, allowing it to plump up and take on extra flavour before being folded into the batter with warming spices. The result? A beautifully moist loaf that slices perfectly and tastes even better after a day or two, once all the flavours have had chance to develop.

For many people in Wales, bara brith brings back memories of tea and cake with grandparents, chapel gatherings, local cafés or rainy afternoons with a thick slice spread generously with butter. If you ask me, it’s one of those bakes that feels quietly nostalgic – simple, unfussy and all about comfort.

In this version, I’ve used my Thermomix to help speed things up and make the process even easier. It’s brilliant for quickly mixing the batter and keeping everything fuss-free, especially if you bake regularly or want a more streamlined way to make traditional recipes at home. That said, don’t worry if you don’t have one – you can absolutely make this recipe by hand too.

The best way to serve bara brith? Thickly sliced and generously slathered with salted Welsh butter while enjoying a good cup of tea ☕️
